Signs of the need to replace motor oil
Any unusual sound in the engine operation? The car does not run as before or the oil pressure light blinks? It may be necessary to replace the motor oil.
Signs of the need to replace motor oil
An unusual sound at morning engine start
If you hear a ticking sound that disappears when the engine warms up, try to replace the oil. The fact is that while the engine warms up, the oil does not enter all places to lubricate the moving parts. It is worth knowing that in the course of time, the oil becomes contaminated and loses its properties. A «ticking» or «clicking» sound indicates that the oil does not enter the cylinder head. This is especially topical for cars with hydraulic dampers of valves.
Unstable operation of engine at idle
Signs of «dirty oil» are heavy work of engine at idle. The engine creates more vibration than usual. Of course, the reason may lie in dangling engine mounts, but if the vibration disappears after warming up, then most likely the reason is in contaminated oil. In addition, contaminated motor oil increases friction between pistons, rings, and bearings, resulting in «jolting» of the motor.
Lost traction
Untimely replacement of motor oil can cause the machine to «dull» during acceleration. Old and dirty oil does not lubricate the moving parts inside the engine, and as a result, it does not work properly.
Unusual sounds during engine operation
You cannot ignore the unusual sound in the engine operation. Under the insufficient level of motor oil, bearings, liners and crankshaft wear out. As a rule, at the time of knocking, the engine twitches, and the sound rises with increasing of engine speed. Unfortunately, if you hear the sound of knocking, then a simple oil replacement will not solve the problem, although if you pay attention to it at the initial stage, then everything can end by the topping up and oil replacement in the engine.
Oil pressure light switches on
When the motor oil pressure light switched on, the oil pressure in the system is very low. In this case, stop and check the oil level. If the oil level is normal, then the sensor may have failed. If the oil level is less than necessary, then you should fill the oil to the level and try to start the car again. If the light goes out, you can continue moving. But in any case, a visit to the servicing cannot be avoided.
